August Steel Shipments Up 5.1 Percent From August 2016
 The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of August 2017, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,928,795 net tons, a 6.0 percent increase from the 7,480,241 net tons shipped in the previous month, July 2017, and a 5.1 percent increase from the 7,542,605 net tons shipped in August 2016. Shipments year-to-date in 2017 are 60,868,122 net tons, a 3.1 percent increase vs. 2016 shipments of 59,033,706 net tons for eight months.
A comparison of August shipments to the previous month of July shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 8 percent, hot rolled sheets, up 5 percent and cold rolled sheets, up 3 percent.
